Consolidated MARPOL 73/78 Course, Annexes I-VI

Description
This course aims to impart the mandatory minimum requirement of the 1978 International Convention on Standards of training Certification and Watchkeeping for seafarers (STCW), as amended for knowledge, understanding and proficiency of marine deck and engineering officers in the operational and management levels as provided in Section A-ll/1, ll/2, ll/3 and in tables A-lll/1, lll/2 and lll/3 respectively, of the STCW Code for the functions controlling the operation of the ship and care for persons onboard.
This consolidated course covers the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from ships,1973as modified by the protocol of 1978 (MARPOL 73/78) based on the technical content provided in Annexes l to Vl.This course requires a total of forty (40) instructional hours to complete, consisting of theory 70% and demonstration/practical work 30% activities. The subject matters include; Annex l (Prevention of Pollution by Oil); Annex ll(Control of Pollution by Noxious Liquid Substances); Annex lll (Prevention of Pollution by Harmful Substances); Annex lV (Prevention of Pollution by Sewage from Ships); Annex V (Prevention of Pollution by Garbage form Ships) and Annex VI (Prevention of Air Pollution from Ships).

Entry Requirement

This course is open to marine deck and engine officers and others personnel responsible in ensuring compliance of onboard operations to regulation of MARPOL 73/78 Convention and also individual agency representatives involved in education and training, recruitment, selection and development of maritime manpower may also take the course. Those who are about to enter the profession or new entrants to the merchant marine force should be made known to the instructor.
